At HJP, one of our biggest beliefs is that financial education should be accessible to everyone.
A large part of financial wellbeing is about confidence and feeling in control of your finances. We want to help people feel empowered about their financial futures, starting from a young age. That’s why we have started to make the time to provide financial education to some of our local schools.
For Primary school children, we run a fun, interactive Money Matters workshop by RedSTART to start to give them financial confidence from a young age, including games to teach them about risk and reward.
We also run workshops for 16+ which includes budgeting, savings, insurance and protecting yourself online, where all resources have been externally accredited by Young Money and the Money and Pensions Service which endorses their quality.
“On speaking with the pupils, I asked them as to what had they learnt from the session. I was astonished to be informed as not invest too much money too quickly as you have a higher risk of losing it.
Others also told me about, ‘sticking to what you’re good at but at times try something different.’
There were many life’s skills developed which was a fantastic opportunity for the children.”
Robert Veale, Headmaster at St. John’s C of E in Caterham
Some of the schools and academies we have worked with include:
• St. Johns C of E in Dorking
• Essendene Lodge Preparatory School and Nursery
• St. Johns C of E in Caterham
• Dorking Wanderers Academy
There is no charge for our workshops.
We also understand the huge impact money worries have on mental health, so in the near future, we are also looking to give financial wellbeing workshops to some local businesses. If you could like to find out more, please contact us at hjpcfp@sjpp.co.uk
